An Introduction To The Way In Which Metro Ethernet Connects Datacentres
Investing in Metro Ethernet is a wise business decision. This is done by connecting individuals and businesses to extend their access to business networks across town. This connection allows for access to the internet, small networks, or corporate networks. Small college campuses are able to connect to their mother campus networks.
Carrier Ethernet technology is utilized by Metro Ethernet to connect networks separated by distances. It enables network communication within a large building, between multiple buildings, or multiple sites. Carrier Ethernet increases Ethernet’s abilities allowing it to be used over SONET/SDH, Multiprotocol Label Switching networks, or through IP core networks.
Metro Ethernet uses a network topology. Network topology works with individual servers or routers and connects through fiber optic cable or media. Metro Ethernet is able to use multiple speeds of connection. This means organizations and businesses can connect to datacenters regardless of connection speed. This means bandwidth requirements are not fixed. All companies find that the Metro Ethernet network is a valuable tool and has many uses. A business at one end of town plugs into the Metro Ethernet while one at the other end also plugs into it. Metro Ethernet is basically the same as an Ethernet connection. Maintenance is very easy once it is installed. It lends individuals and businesses more time for important issues. This enables businesses to have access to each other’s datacenters.
High-performance telecommunication networks, such as Metro Ethernet, use a mechanism called Multiprotocol Label Switching to direct and carry data from one network to the next. MPLS uses labels to transfer this data from one network node to the other. Creating links between networks is simple using MPLS. Only the destination node responds, but data is sent to all of them. This is why many companies employ the use of a Virtual Private Network. This is a computer network that utilizes public telecommunication, like the internet, and provides individuals and offices secure access to their company’s network. Think of VPN as a small tunnel inside a big one. The larger tunnel is the internet connection, while the smaller one is used to transfer and access data. The VPN encrypts important information and transfers it to the other computer. No other computer, besides the intended one, can decode this information.
Many companies, institutions, and individuals are using this technology and the numbers are increasing every day. It sounds extremely complicated, but is actually simple. The word metro is derived from metropolitan. Ethernet is an internet connection. Metro Ethernet allows a doctor’s office on one side of town to access the datacenter of a hospital on the other side. The service provider installs a UNI (User-Network Interface) which provides basic Ethernet internet access. This is the interface that the Metro Ethernet uses. The UNI is where the customer service connection is made. An EVC (Ethernet Virtual Connection) creates a path between UNIs. Metro Ethernet Services may be a more cost effective solution for offices that wish to connect multiple locations within a small geographical location.
