How On Hold Messaging Saves Time

Being put on hold doesn’t have to be a boring waste of your precious time while you wait to be connected.  Savvy businesses today are taking advantage of this time that they have customers on the line through the use of on hold messaging.  On hold messaging is a cost effective way for companies of all types to reach customers with a directed message that offers benefits unique to its medium.

From the customer’s perspective, the old forms of waiting on the phone line don’t have much to offer.  They might simply be calling to schedule an appointment or ask a basic question about the business like hours of operation or the cost or availability of a product.  While they wait, there is either nothing in the background, silence broken up occasionally by a voice saying, “Someone will be with you shortly,” or some kind of music they’d rather not be listening to.  So what does the customer do during this time?  The best case scenario leaves the customer sitting there, waiting patiently.  Another caller might be in a bad mood already, perhaps they were calling with a problem or complaint about a product or service they had received.  No matter the case, the on hold time is not something the customer looks forward to.

The customer’s time should be viewed as golden to any company, given that, from a marketing point of view, this is just what any good company is after.  When you think about it, it should jump out at you as foolish that a company would have somebody’s ear for anywhere from five to twenty minutes and not use that time productively.  This is where on hold marketing comes into play.  An effective on hold message vendor will be able to construct a creative message according to your company’s business strategy.

So what will your business want to get across to consumers while they are on the line waiting?  You may choose to entertain your caller’s with humor.  You may advertise new deals or products to inform your caller of what you have to offer and increase product sales.  Or you could inform the caller of upcoming events.  A company may also provide further contact information, such as directing callers to their website for needs that can be alternatively taken care of there instead of over the phone, thus increasing web traffic.

The mutual benefits of on hold messaging can be seen.  No matter how your company chooses to implement it, customers will certainly be happier that you did.
